Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico

Why Puerto Rico?  The island is a short flight from New York and all you need is a photo ID and a flight ticket. Puerto Rico could be a relaxing gate-away for laid back vacationers or an adventure in waiting for some or a perfect mix of both.

San Juan is the old city area, very charming with its cobbled streets, colorful houses and gigantic fortresses. The old city is best explored on foot and a walking tour of the city is a great start. We took a night tour with Legends Of Puerto Rico. (www.legendsofpr.com). Our guide took us into calles (streets) and inside historic buildings while talking about the architectural changes the city has seen over the centuries. The next few days we explored the city on our own.

Come evening the streets turn into a fiesta with open air restaurants, live music, and the cobbled stones shining in the twilight. San Juan had some great sea food and great options for vegetarians too!

One must do when in Puerto Rico is the bioluminescent kayaking tour. It was the first time we kayaked at night. Organisms under water sparkled every time the oars moved. That was Puerto Rico for us, we hope to go again and explore the islands of Culebra, Vieques along with revisiting Old San Juan, definitely a favorite.
